I recently purchased the kindle version of this book for my kindle TOUCH and so far it is really nice... I go to the TABLE of CONTENTS then to the INDEX and search for the name of the pill/ medication that I am looking for (sometimes it takes a few min, depending on what you are looking for because yes, you do have to start from 'A') and when I find it I click on it and it brings me directly to the medication/pill that I am looking for. The information is easy to read and the majority of it is in ENGLISH (not an obscene amount of med. terminology or nurse shorthand)Even the pill identification charts work, however because I have the touch, it's in black and white and the drawback to the charts is that you have to look through each one, starting at A (however if you can click (touch the side to turn the page) real fast and kinda keep up with it, again, not so bad.)I actually purchased this to help with a project we have called 'drug cards' as I am studying to be a M.Assistant, so this is helping me learn the side effects and everything else listed :) Good book for beginning Med student or pharmacist tech if your not good with the med terminology yet.

Like Leonard Maltin's comprehensive Movie Guide, this is a book to have at arm's reach and to discard with each new edition (average useful life is 2 years). But having tried the somewhat less expensive Kindle version, primarily because of instantaneous delivery, I'd have to recommend spending the extra buck on a hard-copy edition. Unless you're an experienced, exceptionally agile Kindle user, reference books like this are much more convenient in hard-copy rather than virtual, or electronic, form. Practically any book that is information-exhaustive and index-dependent is cumbersome to use as an e-book, unless you don't mind entering Search numerous times. (It would be helpful if the Kindle had a one-button Index feature, with the words in the index acting as hot-links to the information in question.) Caveat: I may be overlooking a feature of the Kindle. Apart from the index, the device surpasses hard copy in its compactness, convenience, clutter-reduction, and audible read-back feature.

I purchased a total of 3 of this book. I love the organized information and they are easy to follow. I gave one for my mom to help her understand how her medication works and the interaction of the pill with another medication as well as how the pill reacts to her food and drink. The other book went to my aunt who requested this book for she also wants to know about the medication she is taking. She was so grateful of my gift to her.

I Only Saw One Pill That that Matched My 12 prescription pills. I Can Only Say You Get What You Pay For,

I have used this book since they printed the very first one. Since I have many allergies to many medications I have to research any medications before taking them. I always make sure that I get the newest "New and Revised Edition" when it comes out. I give my older one to some one that I feel can use it.I found this book to be an invaluable addition to my medical information library as well as to my life. It has saved me more than once. I literally am never without this book.I have on occasion even given this book as a gift to people that have developed medical situations where they will be taking a lot of medications.The book is extremely well written for the average person on the street. Also, it's incredibly easy to find the meds you're looking for.(Unlike other books I have.) The meds are usually listed in Brand name and Generic form, alphabetically.The explanations are thorough and easy to read.I can't think of any other phrases to impress you with other than "YOU MUST HAVE THIS BOOK TO PROTECT YOURSELF AND YOUR LOVED ONES".

I had recently purchased a kindle and added this book in my library. This is a great book to have specially for working nurses. finding the information about medication is very quick and easy, (word of advice, look for the list of medications first and bookmark certain medications that start at certain letters) then navigate from there. very helpful in the clinical setting the the book explains information fairly well and straight to the point. I would recommend this book for all clinicians and nursing students.

Sure all or most of this information is on the internet but what if your computer goes down and you get a new prescription from your Doctor and you have questions? Before there were 800 numbers to call and computers to google subjects on there were books like this one. I happened to run across one my Mom had from 1998 so I thought I would get up to date on the drugs that are commonly taken by us every day. Great book-easy to read and makes a great reference source. Price was very very reasonable too.

Great book, it's got everything that I've looked for. And every thing you could want to know, good and bad about a drug. It's my go to book for the whole family. Especially from my mother, who has Several drugs she needs. And if the change one of them, can know all about it, that docs and Pharmacist may forget to tell you about.

I have a few serger books, some better than others. This is one of the good ones for me especially as she has pretty much the same machine as I do but even if you have a different brand there would be no problem as they all work pretty much the same. If you have a Babylock with air threading and auto tensions then it wouldn't be much help. This book is easy to understand with lots of colour pictures to help you. It also has snippets of coverstitching throughout plus the 'Ideas' pictures on how to incorporate various stitches into design features. The only thing I would emphasis is that if you are an absolute beginner (i.e. never used a serger before) I would recommend getting a beginner one first as some of the instructions are assuming you are fairly familiar with using a serger and skim over the very basic stuff. For me, it rates as one of the best

Have read this book cover to cover and found I couldn't let another day go by without a review. No doubt this is the best book on Sergers, techniques and tips that is on the market today. It is laid out extremely well by sections: Serging Basics, Techniques, Quick Constructions which allows one to quickly access whatever is our need. The text is well written, concise but very clear, and the pictures are very well photographed for details. Excellent book! Best on the market.

If you need to know something pertaining to a Serger...this is the book to have!It shows lots of pics and gives you ideas and shows stitching that can be done with the Serger.I love this book!

Of the multiple "Serger" books I purtchased, this is my favorite for the simple fact this is a great "stand-alone" reference and guide to learning how to get the most benefit and use out of your Serger. I highly recommend this Reference Book on Sergers!

I keep this book by my serger, as a ready reference. I don't see how I survived without this book all these years! Serging for more than a decade, and only doing the basic serging- I never knew just how versatile the serger is. This book gives lots of pictures, and suggestions for improving stitch formation.

My serger class instructor recommended this book. She said it was the best she could find.

I really liked adding this book (by Hincks) to my sewing library as it is easy to hold, colorful, informative, easy to read and understand. The chapters are not long boring narratives, but broken into small sections accompanied by many pictures in color with tips in boxes and closeups of the items described. Chapter 2 includes the decorative stitches, and use of each specialty foot. Chapter 3 has a number of serger projects to make to become as familiar with a serger as you are with a sewing machine. I also own the Sewing Machine Embroiderer's Bible (Keegan) and the Sewing Machine Accessories Bible (Gardner & Logan) and refer to these small manuals often. Together, they make a nice set.

Having done some work with genetic algorithms, I was very excited to read a book by John Holland. I was hoping to learn more about how to create models of complex systems and how new behavior can be exhibited by computer programs that were not inherent in the programmer's intent or design.I certainly came away with knowledge of how to create models because that seemed to be the main point that Professor Holland made throughout the book. Don't get me wrong. Modeling is critically important to understanding the world we live in and the phenomena we observe in the world. I just had no idea from the title or the blurbs that modeling would be such a central theme. In a way it is reassuring since modeling is something that I am very comfortable with, and to me, relatively straight forward.The book covers such novel concepts as cell assemblies, anticipation, signaling, and indefinite memory in relatively easy to understand language. There is a fair amount of dense mathematical notation that adds a bit of depth if you are comfortable with the subject matter, but can be skipped by the casual reader. I also like the point Professor Holland made about macrolaws and microlaws - that once basic structures and patterns are in place (microlaws), emergent, higher level structures and patterns emerge (macrolaws) that can be explained without reverting back to a knowledge of the microlaws. This provides a road map to understanding more about emergent behavior as we better develop and understand the microlaws describing emergent behavior.I do think that some of the material was repetitive. Although many reviewers liked the last chapter or two, the end of the book seemed to drag on for me. It was a combination of recap (which is fine), and a philosophical discourse on innovation and creativity. The material was fine, but it seemed just tacked on at the end, and was less interesting to me than the rest of the book.I have not yet read "Hidden Order", so I cannot compare the two books. Overall, I am very glad I read the book. I learned many new concepts regarding emergent behavior, and reinforced my prior knowledge about things like neural nets, genetic algorithms, and game trees.

I just read Emergence in preperation for my oral qualifying exams for a Ph.D. in computer science and cognitive science. I disagree with many of the negative reviewers -- this book is well-worth the read. I share some frustration over this book due to the way it seems to scratch the surface. The book's strength seems to be in asking the right questions and pointing the way towards some future science of emergent behavior.The book is too short for my taste -- in many of the later chapters Holland makes thought-provoking, deep remarks, without the follow-up and commentary that they leave me hoping for. But again, his main purpose seems to be in making people think about the issues. And he provides some formalisms that might be part of some future theory -- his constrained generating procedures (CGPs) and the variable "CGP-v" recall constructs such as the Turing machine for studying computability.The strengths of the book lie in:1) Discussion of the nature of modeling in science, and computer modeling in particular. This is discussed with clarity and pragmatism.2) The beginnings of a framework in which to study emergence in multi-agent systems.3) Discussion of the importance of metaphor/analogy in the creative scientific process. I didn't expect this to appear in the book but it was very welcome, and especially appropriate due to the role played by Mitchell's and Hofstadter's "Copycat" model (of analog-making itself) as it motivates the expansion of CGPs to CGP-v's as the book progresses.Overall, I recommend this book highly to readers interested in the beginnings of this exciting new science, that really is in its infancy. I gave it 4 stars just because I felt like Holland had a lot more to say in the later chapters and left too much "as an exercise for the reader." I hope he does follow-on work that clarifies his vision for a future science of emergence!

Having just read Holland's other book "Hidden Order", I was psyched to hear that he had written another book on the science of complex adaptive systems. This book, however, was quite disappointing. While the first few chapters were interesting, the second half of the book was a loss to me. There seemed to be too many divergent themes upon which he was trying to comment. I feel like he ran out of ideas and started just writing down anything that came to mind. The last chapter provided a good summary of the ideas he tried to express concerning emergence, but the book on the whole left more questions than it answered. If you really want to learn something about emergence and related science of complexity, check out his other book "Hidden Order". It's much better and a bit easier to understand in my opinion.

John H. Holland is known to complexity theorists and computer programmers as the creator of the "Genetic Algorithm", a method of modeling evolutionary systems on PCs.Holland's book Emergence is an attempt at a mass-media audience; the book is well written and easy to understand, but the subject matter is daunting.Great stuff if you like computer modeling of systems.
