Absolutely beautiful story of a couple who chose life. Heart wrenching at times. Deep thinking topics. Shows the reality that GOD will meet us right where we are and carry us through the unthinkable.

Warning: if you have an ounce of humanity in you, have a box of tissues handy... you will definitely need them. I guess I could relate to her story because I have a niece that was given a fatal diagnosis at an ultrasound and she too decided to carry to term. Baby Ava lived for four days in the arms of family and friends who loved her. I could also relate because one of my older brothers died shortly before delivery. My parents had waited ten long years for another child, only to lose him due to a difficult birth. My Dad did not let her see him and my Mom has grieved about that even now more than sixty years later. Before we as a culture completely loses its grip on humanity, we need the stories of how truly precious those children who our culture has deemed "not worthy of life" really are. Beautiful Cerian and Beautiful Ava please intercede for us. We are so lost and mixed up.

Sarah Williams is an amazing teacher and writer. I am familiar and quite a fan of her teaching on the subject of Christian History, so I was eager to check out this book. I was moved and impacted profoundly by the story of Cerian. Williams is a beautiful storyteller and this story is a vulnerable, personal one, but also with profound societal implications. Absolutely outstanding.

This book is a blessing. It is a reminder that we don't determine the value of another and some of life's hardest journeys are the ones that we are so necessary to travel. Sharing life and valuing others as we walk with Jesus is the beauty of our journey.

Sarah C. Williams who is married with two daughters and teaching history at the University of Oxford gives a candid and vulnerable account in "Perfectly Human - Nine Months with Cerian" about her pregnancy with her third daughter Cerian (which is Welsh and means "loved one") when it is discovered that her child would not live after birth due to lethal skeletal dysplasia. Williams takes the reader on the journey through the time of pregnancy, birth, and grief. She does not only retell the experiences of herself and her family, facing disbelief or outright hostility by others, but explores the ethical and spiritual. The book is far more than a personal account, more than a memoir, but a reflection "personhood". Williams quotes e.g., protestant theologian Jürgen Moltmann: "In reality there is no such ting as non-handicapped life, only the idea of health set up by society..." and a lecture by catholic theologian Dr. Heather Ward.Whereas prenatal screening is mainly used to identify the biological sex of a child in Western societies and then the mother is put under pressure to terminate the pregnancy when there are medical conditions, in other parts of the world the mother is also put under pressure when the child is of the "wrong" sex. Williams states that "the practice (of prenatal screening) is understood to be morally neutral. It is the degree to which it supports and facilitates individual choice that determines whether or not it is good or bad, right or wrong." It teaches and reinforces particular ways of thinking about the human person and leads to the present social practice that renders acceptable the idea of terminating the life of a child whose physical capacities are suboptimal. Sadly legal structures make this idea permissible and possible, but it dehumanizes all of us. The question if this practice is actually good for society has not even been asked.According to Williams Cerian's story is placed in a much larger social drama because her private decision has an impact on society. It is not only the pressure of terminating fetal abnormality but also of assisted dying with which we are faced today. There are socially acceptable definitions for "personhood", "quality of life", and "humanness" with which we are confronted. Williams asks: "What does it really mean to be human?" and she states that limitations, finitude, suffering, weakness, disability, and frailty can be gifts. Ultimately, according to her, personhood is a gift.The first part of "Perfectly Human" was written two years after Cerian's death, parts of it published in 2007 as "The Shaming of the Strong." This second edition shows that the central themes are even more pertinent today. Williams also puts in notes where the US-American laws in regards to the termination of pregnancies differ from the British laws. I chose to read and review this book due to the fact that I have two friends who have lost their children at birth because of medical conditions and the daughter of friends who was advised to terminate her pregnancy because of problems with the valve of the heart of her baby. Ironically since she refused there was a staff of about thirty people present to do the heart surgery if necessary after the cesarian (see e.g., also the surgeries done by Ben Carson M.D. or the book "When is it right to die?" by Joni Eareckson Tada). I highly recommend this book for all those who are under pressure to terminate a pregnancy, those who are close to them, but most of all for all who want to deal with the very pertinent issues of termination and "assisted death."The complimentary copy of this book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley free of charge. I did not want to read this book. I thought the subject matter was too tough and it would be too painful to read. While the subject matter is hard, it is a beautifully written book. I went through a roller coaster of emotions while reading it, but the story line was very engaging and kept pulling me back in. When one of the girls asked if she could always love the baby even when it died, I shed a few tears. The scene in the hospital where Sarah and Wren felt God’s presence in the room coming to take Cerian home gave me goosebumps. Even though this is a real story it reads more like a novel in the way you are drawn into the characters and story. I highly recommend this book.

I'm torn on writing this review. I'm giving it 4 stars because it's actually a really good read. And my best friend has been using this book as her "bible" for the last 8 years and swears by it. But I've read it and thought "wow all of this is crazy" and gone about my own methods and breaking every rule in that book and I'm about to get married.It is a really good book, and if you're in a spot where you feel like you're not finding the right guy or not getting the right guy, then maybe it might be the perfect read for you!

I was married for 17 years, then started dating and met a guy I was crazy about. In the normal girl way I was clingy, needy and over all a freakin insecure doormat. Trying so hard to please him instead of pleasing myself. Of course he became less interested with each passing day to the point of I’d go weeks without hearing from him no phone call/text. Nothing.Then I read both books and started applying the principals and OMG! What a game changer!!Everything changed within the relationship he became more and more interested and really started to invest emotionally in our connection.The more I invested in and honored myself the more he pressed in and invested into our relationship. I started seeing him in a whole new way. He went from a selfish egotistical a hole to a loving and attentive man that loves with all his heart.We’ve been living together for 2years . 💗I couldn’t be happier. Thank you Sherry for all your principles, I still use the book as a reference to this day.

I loved this book entirely for the way it focuses on self-respect. If you respect yourself enough, and don't fall for any b.s., and don't put up with it either, you will find the right guy for you. It's not about appeasing him. It's about serving your needs and finding the person who will best suit your life. You aren't an object; you have feelings and opinions; and you are in no way his servant. You are you, and you deserve the best.Several chapters in here had their faults-- for example, teaching women how to behave while giving their guy oral sex. First of all, you NEVER have to do anything you don't want to do. Second, with the men saying pretty bluntly that they expect you to not enjoy it, there is no real motivation on your part to do it. Only do what you want to do.Secondly, there's a section on "tests" vs. disrespect, whereby men will try to evaluate you by purposely being jerks-- but as Sherry even points out, any amount of disrespect is too much. Do not tolerate any of it. I don't mean put up a fuss- I mean get a new guy. If he's going to do that, as she explains as well, he'll try more and more disrespectful things just to see what he can get away with. You don't want that type of guy. Don't waste your time. And, as she says as well, once you're out of it, and realize you've been letting yourself be disrespected, that's the killer for you. That's what'll bother you most. So don't go down that path. You deserve the best!The whole purpose of this book, minus the parts I didn't agree with, above, is to invest in yourself, and value yourself first. You don't need him; you want him. You are whole on your own. And you are the one who gets to ask: what's in it for me? instead of "where is this relationship going?" Who gave him that control? Not you! Not me! You live your life and the right guy will come and see how he can fit into it. Enjoy!

I read this book, as well as the first one ("Why Men Date Bitches"), and I think they are both full of great information that a person can apply not only to dating, but life as well. Women too often let people walk all over them, and accommodate every whim because they think it will get people to like them more (I speak from personal experience). But when you realize it's the people who don't do this are actually the ones getting people to fawn all over them, it's easy to understand why men would go for the "bitch." I've made all my friends read the dating one, unfortunately they don't apply the principles, and surprise, surprise, none of them have healthy relationships. I'm not saying that if you don't do what this book says, you will have unhealthy relationships; my friends are just those nice girls who think that doing everything for their man will keep him around and satisfied, and that goes to show that it's not always true.

I'm new to packrafting and this book is as essential for me as my new paddle. This book covers the basics, but it also covers topics I will always use no matter what my skill level is, i.e. packing lists and trip ideas. It's also is full of beautiful colored photos- tons of them- almost every page! It's great for getting a dreamer dreaming of adventures! I would love to see a follow up book with each chapter as a trip. I have a feeling the author has had many great trips to write about. I would recommend this to anyone who packrafts! I attached a few photos of our packraft trip in SE Alaska, out to the Patterson Glacier. Wish I had read this book before the trip, it would have gone a lot smoother.And unlike the previous review, i'm not married to the author (lol), in fact I've never hear of Molly Absolon (no offense). But I hope to meet you out packrafting someday :)

Glad to see more books on this sport. The boats open whole worlds of opportunity. This is a good basic intro that will be helpful for beginners. I found the chapter on river reading pretty helpful even though I’m 5 years into the sport. Wish I would have had it at the start. You could find most of what’s covered in here with lots of web searching (well, if you knew what to look for), but this puts it all in place and hits it all, with lots of good pictures. Well done.

I love this book. Great tips, excellent information to get you started in a new sport. The photos are absolutely fantastic as well. So glad I am married to the author, but I know you'll love the book as well, even if you aren't as biased as me.

In today's society, sex is advertised everywhere; TV, school, online...but it is portrayed as though a physical sexual relationship is the only thing that matters. This is a far cry from the truth. The author is genuine, candid, open, honest and forthright about her own experiences and those with whom she has spoken and shares with the reader their personal stories in the book. Sex is an integral part of each person, yet it must be protected and cultivated within the boundaries of a one man, one woman relationship and within the confines of marriage, in order to have true freedom. Hats off to Ms. Martin in dealing with raw emotion, emotional pain and the difficult questions young people are asking but as yet have been able to find the truth. In The Bare Naked Truth: Dating, Waiting, and God's Purity Plan, they will find just that...truth.

I guess it's an okay written book, there wasn't a thing that I found to be "wrong" or misguiding. it was painfully boring full of cliches. Not something I would recommend. I read through it in a couple of hours so it didn't take up too much time. I guess I was waiting to come across something that wasn't beaten over my head multiple times (and I didn't even grow up in a Christian household with parents who talk about this) but it's the same crap. It's no different from the other teen Christian books. She tries to be cute and funny, but it's kind of annoying. No way is it inspirational for me to want to wait for marriage, at the same time I'm not going to "open up my legs" as the author puts it. Still kind of waiting bc that's what "the Christian rule" is. =/

The sense of humor thorough the book makes it very easy to read about a very serious thing. I got the book to help me get the right words to educate my daughters on the topic. Unfortunately I personally identified with some of the stories. The good thing is that at 50 years old I finally understand how some bad choices I made as young lady have impacted my life negatively. I see now this reading will also help me to get back in track and heal some of my own wounds. I hope this book helps many young ladies to make the right decisions. I asking my daughters and nieces to read it.

I feel almost l;ike a spy behind enemy lines because I'm not a teenage girl. Heck I'm not even a girl, but this author's insight into adolescent relationships is spot on. She demonstrates an understanding of the male teenage mind that gets into the weeds about how young girls can recognize a manipulative guy who is only interested in ONE thing. If you have girls, you need this book. I bought one for each of my kids, who now have daughters of their own.

As a young woman that is engaged and in her early twenties, I must say that I truly enjoyed this book and got many things out of it even though I am engaged. I'm a (hopeful) high school teacher for a Christian private school, so I am constantly looking for ways to mentor my students in Christocentric ways. I must say that I was excited to read The Bare Naked Truth and I was definitely not disappointed. Bekah dives deep into hard discussions that teen girls face sometimes every day. The only thing that I do advise is that it really is for TEEN girls. This is definitely not your usual "I Kissed Dating Goodbye" purity book (even though I did actually enjoy that book). I would highly recommend it to any teen girl!

Halfway in and this book is making me feel every emotion. I've grown to appreciate her corny jokes!

Not for adults. It's more suited for teenagers.

This is such a great book and I would recommend it to anyone it really tells you the bare naked truth and it tells every side of the story and its a wonderful book a true Christian book
