I appreciate the exercises in the book.

Like it says, good solid practical way of using psychic self defense.

This one is a good book to start but a bit out date for psychic protection and healing. Things are much different in this area than when the book was written. It requires a lot more tools or tricks than this book has to offer. However, it has to be remembered there aren't a lot of books out there that do cover this topic well.

Although it was quite dated, unfortunately much of it is still relevant today.Some interesting quotes:“If you have total government it makes little difference whether you call it Communism, Fascism, Socialism, Caesarism or Pharaohism. It's all pretty much the same from the standpoint of the people who must live and suffer under it.”“FDR once said ‘In politics, nothing happens by accident. If it happens, you can bet it was planned that way.’”“If you study Marx' Communist Manifesto you will find that in essence Marx said the proletarian revolution would establish the SOCIALIST dictatorship of the proletariat. To achieve the SOCIALIST dictatorship of the proletariat, three things would have to be accomplished: (1) The elimination of all right to private property; (2) The dissolution of the family unit; and (3) Destruction of what Marx referred to as the "opiate of the people," religion.”

Their banks and ancestors bankrolled warring parties, sometimes both sides of the battle, and presently control the world's currency movement.They unscrupulously manipulated politicos and news around the world to keep them as the Established Elite. Jerry Sittser has a remarkable gift for taking complex theology and applying it to everyday life. Many people are good at telling you how to live a Christian life, but their theology may be weak. Sittser is a theologian, and he supports his points with numerous scripture references. In his book, The Will of God as a Way of Life: How to Make Every Decision with Peace and Confidence, the only thing not to like is the title. The subtitle makes it sound like a self-help book. While you will walk away with a new insight, this is no simple, "follow these three steps to better decisions" book.Instead, Sittser dives head on into the theological issues surrounding the will of God. God's sovereignty, our free will, calling, and the role of suffering in our lives, all get ample attention.But what grabs me the most is his opening conversation about God's will for our life. What do we mean we say "it is God's will?" And how about following God's will. What if we make the wrong decision and head down a different path? Sittser explores these questions, and provides an answer."As I struggled with the issue of discovering God's will, I came to a startling conclusion. The will of God concerns the present more than the future; it deals with our motives as well as our actions; it focuses on the little decisions we make every day even more than the big decision we make about the future. The only time we really have both to know and to do God's will is the present moment. We are to love God with heart, soul, mind, and strength, and we are to love our neighbors as we love ourselves. These are the basic responsibilities Jesus challenges us to pay attention to."In other words, that job we are deciding on, that relationship we are struggling with, that question about our direction in life, are missing the point. Following God's will is reflected in how we live now, not in what the future holds for us. "We can, in good conscience, choose from among any number of reasonable alternatives and continue to do the will of God."And just as how this no simple self-help book, Sittser encourages us to seek God's direction in scripture, but not as as how-to book. "The Bible does not tell us what to do in every situation. It establishes guidelines and principles, not a long list of rules. It sets the overall direction."I should also note his strong work in the area of suffering and God's will. I reviewed his book, A Grace Revealed, which explores this topic in depth. He also deals with it in A Grace Disguised. Sittser's entire family was in the car when it was hit by a drunk driver, and he lost his mother, his wife, and a daughter, in an instant. He understands suffering.He sees God's story in our lives as a story of redemption. Like reading a novel, the author knows the plot, but the characters are learning as they go. But here, the characters know the ending, and it is a good ending. "Sinfulness and tragedies and suffering and everything else never have the final word. God has the final word. The cross is irrefutable proof that God's hidden will, mysterious and unfathomable at times, is real and redemptive."Sittser never dismisses suffering, but he recognizes our limited viewpoint. It is a humble viewpoint, and thus better focused on living God's will in the present, confident in the future.

I have been over thinking and somewhat confused about decisions affecting my future, short term and long term. This is a very biblical approach, first of all, and very well written. My thought processes have really come into much better focus and I have much more peace from the careful reading and application of this book.

This was a really enjoyable book to read. Jerry makes the difficulties of life seem doable with God. I love how he weaves in so many books and cultural references. He is a good story teller and seems authentic.

I wish I would have have read this book fifteen years ago. Easy read and a well constructed, practical way of viewing God's will for our life and the human race. Wish a few parts would have referenced biblical stories more often rather than other Christian authors, but I found everything added to creating a healthier view of God's will for His creation.

I highly encourage you to read this book if you are seeking to know God's Will for your Life.

This well-researched biography of Cass Elliot was both informative and entertaining. Fiegel delves into Cass's early life, the loss of her beloved father and the suffering she endured because she was fat. Being obese during a time when everyone stressed thinness(think Twiggy), took a toll on Cass's self esteem and self image.But this never stopped her from going after what she wanted---fame and fortune. But true love alluded her to the end. A string of (always good looking) men surrounded her but often for the wrong reasons. She craved true love all her life, finding it in the only daughter she had.The story chronicles her early life, time with the Mugwumps, her strong connection to folk music, her unrequited love for Canadian crooner, Denny Doherty, her drug abuse and difficult relationship with John Phillips.The book really deserves a 4.5 star from me. The reason I gave it a 4 is due to several repetitions throughout the course of the book. I mean, how many times is the author going to explain that Cass never got over the ridicule she suffered in high school for being fat. We get it! Also, the last section had so many long quotes from acquaintances, that it proved to be a distraction.This is the book however, that puts all the pieces of Cass's life together to create a tapestry of the life of an amazingly talented star---gone far too soon!

I'm so glad I was able to get a copy of this cheaply, it's out of print and a collectible. Written by Cass's dearest friend from high school. All the details that make Cass's story more complete for me. Very sad. THe band would have fell apart without her. THe harassment she got for being overweight. Really smart. It's got the sexual exploits cataloged somewhat. Amazing stuff. Roman Polanski slept with Michelle Phillips once, while John was locked out, pounding on the door. Then Roman wanted to sleep with MacKenzie. What a feat, a conquering and competition for females among drugged out men. Denny and Cass relationship VERY sad. There is an essay I found online, written by Cass's German husband of two years. You can google it. Very revealing and heartfelt too. She did a lot of drugs. They all did, while making money as a wholesome and benign folk rock band! I think every member wrote a biography. That would be fun to read all of them.

Wow...words cannot begin to describe this book! A very detailed, and well researched book about one of the greatest female singers ever to grace us with her beautiful voice and music! After reading this book I found myself lost and up in the clouds because I have never, ever been so into A book in all my life. I just wish I was old enough back then to have fully appreciated Cass, The Mamas and Papas, and the music explosion of incredible people, songs, and albums(I was born in 1968). I guess I will have to settle doing it now. I hope Cass knows somehow that she has so many fans who adore her to this day!! It's very sad to think that she's not here today to feel that warmth. Well, I'd like to think she does know, and is smiling at those fans who continue to be touched by her spirit, music, and humor. Some say Michelle was the "Pretty" one in the Mamas And Papas...I honestly have to say, nahhhh. Cass was as beautiful on the outside, and she was on the inside. The only thing I believe I would maybe tell her, if I had meet her back then...I wish, was to stop the drug use. After reading the book, I learned that she was making big steps to clean up that aspect of her life at the time of her death. The drug use would have turned me off for sure, but this was the mid-late 1960's. If you are A new Cass Elliot fan, purchase this book. You will learn so much about her life, and become even A bigger fan. If you are already A huge Cass fan, and don't own this book...you are doing yourself an in-justice. You will also learn new things like I did! Kudos to the author for an incredible treasure! We still miss you Cass!

...and by that I mean finding out what a serious drug user Cass was most of her life. We're talking heroin here, people, HEROIN. No, She wasn't in the same league with John Phillips, to be sure. Very few people reach that rarified atmosphere (read HIS book), and fewer still live to tell the story. But still... heroin usage throughout a large portion of her life, and on top of all the other drugs she dabbled with. Rather disconcerting, to say the least.This knowledge does not modify in the slightest her achievements as an artist, but it is a good example of why one should always remember to separate that "artist" from the flesh-and-blood person. Which brings me to another point that I gleaned from this book: that she is the iconic figure she is today rather in spite of herself. She never really wanted to be in a rock or even a pop group. She wanted to the kind of singer she eventually became on the RCA albums, and especially the "Don't Call Me Mama Anymore" album. She wanted to be a Barbara Streisand or a Judy Garland. Whether she would ever have achieved that goal had she not crossed paths with John Phillips could be debated ad infinitum, but I'm going to go out on a limb here and say no, she would not have. Why? Because of the way she looked, of course. Her talent and spectacular voice would always have been overshadowed by that factor in the world she sought to be accepted in. It was the quirky, hippie, pop music world that allowed just enough of a foot in the door to force it the rest of the way open with her talent... a world she really didn't seek.So while the Mamas and Papas would have been something very different without her, I believe Phillips still would have put together something in that same vein and had great success because his marvelous writing and formidable leadership just would not be denied for very long. On the other hand I don't think Cass' legacy would be as it is today had she not met John and become the main voice associated with those records.As to the style of the book itself, I would tend to agree with reviewer from Publishers Weekly who described it as "slow and repetitive". I did not find it a "fast read" as one other reviewer did, but I still enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it. I much preferred this book to Michelle Phillips', which was just too slick and breezy.

I am grateful to Guy Armstrong for this wonderful book. I read it once, and I am starting it again. There is a lot to digest. What I like about this book is the author is making the material his own. So many books about Buddhism try to stay as close to the Pali Canon as possible -- afraid perhaps of misinterpreting the Buddha’s own words. Armstrong does not stray far, but rather than simply quoting the old words, he writes as if he owns them. It is like singing a well-known song as if it was your own song. I have not had the privilege of studying under the author in person, although I have listened to his Dharma talks available on Dharmaseed.org. His way of approaching the Dharma drew me to this book, and I am not disappointed.What a challenge, to tackle “emptiness.” He says in the book that emptiness is central to Buddhist teaching, and I believe him. Personally, I never really understood the concept. I cannot say that I completely understand it even after reading the book. This is no fault of the book, I just need to read it again (or perhaps a couple more times). However, what the book has given me so far is a good point of departure for meditation and reflection. Once again, thanks.

It was a pleasure to read this book! A very well rounded and practical look at emptiness and a curious and interesting exploration of related topics. It is relevant to both beginners as well as people with a deeper understanding and practice. I especially loved the discussions on the Ultimate, and I found it to be one of the more balanced and humble that I have come across. Guy is very clear and kind and draws on lots of personal experience plus a deep love of the various Buddhist traditions.

The book presents a difficult topic for most meditators with easy accessibility and great clarity. It is likely to become an important ongoing reference, a seminal work given the wide ranging mix of topics Guy has brought together with exceptional skill.

Excellent because it begins with the basics, travels through how one's meditation changes with continued practice and go to some good length to describe how the view of advanced meditators is markedly different from those who either have not meditated or just meditated for a short period of time. The descriptions of "abiding as emptiness" and nirvana, which are rarely present in many texts of this sort, are very welcomed and seem spot on.

Guy Armstrong is an amazing teacher and writer. His knowledge of the Buddha's teachings is wide and very deep. He elaborates on the sutras most important in understanding emptiness. The meditation practices are simple and powerful. His integrity, honesty and compassion shine through everything he writes. Guy Armstrong is worthy of Shantideva's great words:26 “Today my life has given fruit. This human state has now been well assumed. Today I take my birth in Buddha’s line, And have become the Buddha’s child and heir.27. “In every way, then, I will undertake Activities befitting such a rank. And I will do no act to mar Or compromise this high and faultless lineage.28. “For I am like a blind man who has found A precious gem inside a heap of dust. For so it is, by some strange chance, That bodhichitta has been born in me.

As the title suggests, it's a practical guide for meditators. I found the book clarified a number of things my practice had brought up for me, so it's been invaluable in reading through and discovering these nuggets. I've highlighted loads of sections and will come back to review from time to time.Also, the author takes a fresh approach to describing topics all too familiar to those of us versed in the Buddha's teachings, so it's never dull.Thank you, Guy, a wonderful read! Thoroughly recommended for anyone on the path, or anyone seeking the path.

Very good book on emptiness. Really enjoyed the first 2/3. The last 1/3 was more complex and it will definitely require more reading on my part. Overall, Guy created a good accessible book. I especially like the meditations. Already I've applied some of these concepts to my life and I've found them to be quite helpful (if not liberating).

Excellent book for meditation practitioners who have already been exposed to Buddhism. Highly readable. It introduces and explains concepts which don't come easily for many of us, in an easily digestible way.

About the Author

Jason Bige Burnett graduated from Western Kentucky University with a BFA in ceramics and BAs in both printmaking and graphic design. He then continued his education for two years at the renowned Penland School of Crafts as a core fellowship student and spent a year as an Artist-In-Residence at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg, TN. He has taught many ceramic surface design workshops at various locations including Baltimore Clayworks, MudFire, Odyssey Center for Ceramic Arts, and Santa Fe Clay. His ceramics have been exhibited nationally, and he's been featured in publications such as Pottery Making Illustrated, Ceramics Monthly (Emerging Artist in 2013), American Craft Magazine, and regional magazines such as Carolina Home + Garden and WNC Magazine, in addition to being featured in the book 500 Prints on Clay (Lark Books). Jason currently lives and works as a full-time studio artist in Bakersville, NC.

This book had easy to use templates, clear instructions and fresh ideas. Each project listed the materials and tools needed, had numerous pictures in the step-by-step directions and was easy to read and understand. It even taught you how to build much of the needed equipment. The question and answer sessions found throughout the book were very helpful and the galleries of work from various artists' works were informative and inspirational. This is a book I will use for a long time to come, it will be an invaluable reference tool.

I really like this book, a LOT. Lots of great inspiration into Jason's beautify style. My only wishes were that a little less was spent on screen printing (though I understand the value to many) and lettering photos with corresponding how-to directions that have numbers is confusing for a how-to book that should be super clear. Either link number to number or letter to letter. I did how-to book design for over a decade.

This book is a generous gift to toiling ceramic artist's. It is so free of clutter. It is so clearly instructive. The photography is better than taking a Master Workshop. I would like to buy everything that he publishes. Thank you Jason. Keep on keeping on.....

I bought Jason's video and that was amazing. However, this books is even better! It is wonderfully documented with full-color photos and answers all the questions you may have about creating graphics ceramics. This is now my go-to book.

The one and only book you will ever need for screenprinting on clay. Very well explained and two very useful trouble shooting page. I had no other help/teacher and was succesful from the start .
