I used this book for my ESL reading class and they enjoyed it. It is not a long read but there is ample material for serious discussions on mental health, community, relationships, teenage boys, small towns, and a myriad of other topics. The vocabulary is often idiomatic which is another opportunity to add to discrete word knowledge and cultural allusions.
Another great book from Gary Paulsen. If you like his book "Hatchet" then you should give this one a read.
Our granddaughter is reading this one. She loves it.
simplistic and a little sappy but you won't want to miss reading this little tale of hope.
